Karneval Aalborg 2007

This blog started with the details about my first day in Denmark. It completes two years on blogsphere and it is marked by a celebration in the town of Aalborg - Karneval Aalborg. This being my third carnival in two years (I arrived one the Karneval day). So here are some highlights from the Karneval, which incidently is also my last.

The Karneval celebrations were spread over a week as this was the 25th anniversary of the largest carnival in Northern Europe. With more than 25000 people enjoying the festivities with the carnival bands from 6 countries (Denmark, Germany, Holland, France, UK and Ghana) on the final day, it was the largest till date and my most memorable one. The theme for 2007 was 'Masquerade' a much tamer one compared to last year's 'Erotic & Exotic'.

Karnival Aalborg

Karnival Aalborg is a three ay event which happens every year in Aalborg. It is the biggest carnival in north Europe and 25000 people participated in 2005. I came to Denmark on 2005 on the day of the carnival and have often joked to my colleagues that the people started singing dancing n drinking coz i had arrived. One year and the event happens again.

The first day is the Bourne Karnival (carnival for children) and I really don’t have much to write about it.

The fun begins on the second day when there is a parade of the various bands through the streets of the city and they all collect at Kilder Parken where the 'War of the Bands' begins. Each band plays for about 10 minutes and then 5 bands are selected for the finals the next day. Then there was a 60 min performance by a guy called SW Storm. The music is fusion, reggae, rock, Indian/Bhangra.

The best feature of this day is def the bands competition coz next day u wont be seeing all of the on stage. Bands from far n wide take part in this event. Drum beats and those gorgeous ladies dancing to their beats.

The final day its a riot on the streets. I don’t mean they literally riot, but the parade and the bands and the rest of the people dressed up as anything and everything just throng the streets, drinking beer n having a good time. The usual shenanigans like drunken brawls, people making out in the corners if they aren’t yet wasted, topless girls et al were all there. Don't feel like writing more so just see the pics.

First Day

Dopahar 1 baje Denmark ke Aalborg airport pe padhare.... weather is a bit windy and chilly but shirt mein kaam chal raha hain....airport se mercedes taxi mein aaya... (Sitting in a Merc for the first time!!) ...

Friend ke ghar pahuch ke chai pee aur nikal pade carnival dekhne....aalborg is a beautiful city.... aaj yahan "karnival aalborg" chal raha hain... karnival aalborg bole to north europe ka sabse mast event.... entire city is filled with people who have been dinking since morning and having a good time...gori gori choriyaan daru peeke dhut.... acres of flesh and cleaveage on display.... danish ladkiyaan bole to ekdum raapchick..... jhakaas would be an understatement....people dressed up as anything and everything.... kapde (rather lack thereof) to poocho mat.... alag alag log perform kar rahe they..... brazilian samba ... drum beats from caribbean.. aur kya dance chal raha tha....

mind boggling...i am totally blown off by all this...

town is a typical smalltown european place... no traffic at all... nukad nukad pe bar/pub hain...dekhte hain kaisa time beet-ta hain yahan
